Discovered check (1)

Discovered check is where you put the king in check by moving a piece out of the way. At first, there is another piece between the king and the piece that is giving check. By moving this piece out of the way, the king is suddenly checked.

It is even trickier when you use the piece you move to attack another piece. Your opponent is in big trouble. He has to get out of check and cannot defend the other piece. You can take it when you are to move again.

What do you have to do?

Use a discovered check to win material. There are only a few pieces on the board, which makes it easy for you to find the discovered check.

Ask yourself the following questions:

• Do I have a piece that blocks check?
• Is there a piece that I can attack with the blocking piece?
• How can I attack this piece?
